"CBCT in General and Specialty Dentistry"
Presented by Tenzin Dadul, DDS, MDS, MS, PhD, FICD

Dr. Dadul is a Director of Integration at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. He is a Clinical Associate Professor at Detroit Mercy Dental. He has earned MS in Radiology and a specialty training in Oral Maxillofacial Radiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received MDS in Oral Maxillofacial Medicine and Radiology from the Saveetha University & Hospital. Professor Dadul obtained a dental degree from the Bharat University and has successfully completed an intensive leadership training from the Harvard University followed by a PhD at the Andrews University.

Participants will:

  • Learn the practical applications of CBCT in general dentistry practice.
  • Understand the selection criteria to recommend a CBCT scan for a specific dental purpose.
  • Appreciate optimum dental implant planning using a CBCT software.
  • Appreciate the systematic approach to interpret CBCT scan for clinical cases.
  • Distinguish anatomy vs pathology on CBCT images.
  • Visualize treatment planning for surgical/non-surgical root canal therapies and TMJ/MRI disorders.
  • Value of CBCT scans for medico-legal purposes.

"Pain Management and Infection Control"
Presented by Sanjay Chand, MD

Dr. Sanjay Chand, MD has specialized in medicine with an emphasis on clinical therapeutics and infection control. A Clinical Associate Professor at the U of Detroit Mercy's School of Dentistry, he is Director of Infection Control and oversees best practices at the Dental School. He is Director of Dental, Dental Hygiene, Physician Assistant and Nurse Anesthesia courses at the University. Areas of expertise include infection control, pain management, opioids and chronic disease management in the dental patient.

Participants will:

  • Discuss common types of pain experienced by the dental patient and understand how management of pain affects the quality of life.
  • Develop an awareness of misconceptions and consequences of untreated pain.
  • Identify reasons for the opioid crisis in the US.
  • Discuss the pharmacology of narcotic and non-opioid analgesics.
  • Understand the role of the dental team in assessment and treatment of pain.
  • Be current with CDC/OSHA infection prevention recommendations.
  • Implement effective infection control measures in their practice.
  • Choose appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain a safe workplace environment.
  • Understand current vaccination recommendations for DHCPs.
  • Understand current infectious diseases that may impact the dental practice.

"Perio-Prosth Integration in Modern Implantology"
Presented by Hussein Basma, DDS, DESS, MS

Continuing Education Credits: 6

Dr. Hussein Basma received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Damascus University and completed a residency in Prosthodontics at Lebanese University. He received a Certificate in Periodontology and Master of Science from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Dr. Basma is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Periodontology at UAB. He is a Diplomate in the American Board of Periodontology, and lectures nationally and internationally about periodontology and implant dentistry. Dr. Basma has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific articles and abstracts. His teaching efforts focus on bone augmentation, full-arch rehabilitation, multidisciplinary care, and integration of technology.

Oral rehabilitation of patients with hopeless dentition or edentulous state represents a therapeutic challenge for many clinicians. Careful attention to details and mastering implant site development are important to achieve predictable and long-term success of such cases.

Participants will:

  • Understand the diagnostic variables when treatment planning edentulous cases.
  • Be familiar with surgical and prosthetic planning and execution.
  • Learn new paradigms in guided bone regeneration (GBR).
  • Understand how to safely implement immediate implantation and loading in different clinical situations.
