2014 Meetings
This lecture will expose the attendee to new technologies in periodontics and implant dentistry. The influence of biologics and other new technologies will have a great impact upon the way we treat patients now and in the future including more rapid healing, improved outcomes, and patient satisfaction.
A Diplomate of The American Board of Periodontology, Dr. Scheyer currently serves as a District 5 Trustee for the American Academy of Periodontolgy and is President of the Southwest Society of Periodontists and President-elect of the Texas Society of Periodontists. He is in private practice limited to Periodontics and Implant Dentistry in Houston, TX. He is a Clinical Assistant Instructor at the University of Texas Dental Branch-Houston and Guest Lecturer for the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Drs. McGuire and Scheyer have developed one of the most proficient clinical research centers in periodontics and have been involved with clinical research networks since 1989. Dr. Scheyer shares his research and vast perspectives through national and international lecturing and is a nationally recognized leader in his specialty field.
From the New England Journal of Medicine to Ladies Home Journal, the last 15 years have seen an explosion of published information related to the interactions between oral and systemic health. Patients reading this information want to know how it relates to their own health. This lecture reviews the links between periodontal/peri-implant inflammation and commonly encountered systemic conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and pregnancy. The purpose of the lecture is to translate knowledge gleaned from medical and dental research into the everyday world of clinical dental practice.
Dr. Mealey is Professor and Graduate Program Director in the Department of Periodontics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. A former Director of the American Board of Periodontology and former Trustee of the AAP, he served 21 years in the US Air Force, first as a general dentist then as a periodontist. He has published two textbooks and approximately 100 articles and abstracts in the scientific literature. Dr. Mealey maintains an active clinical practice in periodontics and implant dentistry.
Dr. Farman served as American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology President and as Scientific Editor for that organization. He serves on the international DICOM Standards Committee, on the ASA CDT Codes Maintenance Committee, and as a Board Member for the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission for CT. Dr. Farman served as President of the International Association of Dentomaxillofacial Radiology . He is Founder and Organizer of the international congress on Computed Maxillofacial Imaging that holds its 20th consecutive annual meeting in Fukuoka, Japan in June 2014. He is Deputy Editor of the "International Journal of Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery," and Associate Editor of "Oral Radiology."
Dr. Farman is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and holds earned doctorates both in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology. He originates from Birmingham, England. After decades as an academic within the US, he will reach escape velocity and enter self employment July 1, 2014, and then divide time between Chicago and Tokyo.
